Chapter 2 - SPLTOOL
Display Options
The SPLTOOL
display contains many options that make copying page ranges and trasferring
spooled easy. The display is designed to be user friendly and easy to
use. If a user is familiar with either the WRKOUTQ or WRKSPLF command
displays, working with SPLTOOL will seem like second nature.
Along with the
basic options found in the WRKOUTQ and WRKSPLF commands, SPLTOOL has
a few more options defined to perform certain tasks. What also makes
SPLTOOL very versitile is the ability to create user defined options
similar to the way you can create them in PDM. More on creating and
using user defined options is discussed in Chapter
8.
SPLTOOL can
also remove standard headings from reports when copying a spooled file
with the folder, stream file, or FTP options. Click
here for instructions.
Your display
may or may not have all the options shown here. The Spooled File Tools
Configuration (SPLTOOLCFG) command can be used by your system administrator
to limit the options for each user.
The following
figure shows the SPLTOOL display and the options that are available.

Removing
Standard Headings when using the Folder, Stream File, or FTP options
SPLTOOL can be used to remove
standard headings from reports when copying the spooled file to a folder,
a stream file, or transferring with FTP. For this option to work, the
headings must be on the exact same lines on each page that you
wish to transfer.
When performing one of the
mentioned options in the SPLTOOL command, before processing the command
you have the option to use the F17=Select Lines key. The F17 key will
display a window asking you which page of the spooled file you wish to
view to select lines to omit.
After selecting the page to
view, you will be shown a screen with the spooled file lines and an option
line next to each. To omit specific lines, simply place an "X"
on the option line next to the line that you wish to omit. After you have
selected the lines to omit, press enter and you will be returned to the
SPLTOOL command.
Here is an example of the Select
Lines display:
