The Quick Key is located on the right column of every page and allows a user to quickly and easily receive a temporary key for any software! This means that now if you are in a trial period for software or simply need a temporary key to test out software you already have loaded you can quickly and easily receive a key online. - Major GreenBoard Forum Update! - We have gone through some MAJOR updates with our forum software on our website. First, we've updated the GreenBoard! software to v2.0. We are proud to announce the use of the eRPG SDK as the CGI engine behind the software. There are other updates to the software as well including quoting replies, emoticons, adding hyperlinks, viewing posts while posting or replying and many other features that make using a message forum like this a lot easier. GreenBoard! v2.0 also has the capability to set up multiple forums for different groups. This means that the same software could run a countless number of different boards focusing on different subjects. If you wish to participate or use the forum, simply go to https://www.bvstools.com/greenboard/v2.0/. - Newsletters Available Online - Newsletters are now available online for viewing. This new version of SPLTOOL now allows the merging of one or more spooled files into one PDF, HTML, Text or RTF document! Merging can be done using the "Batch" (ie SPL2STMFB, SPL2EMAILB, etc.) commands, merging documents automatically, or documents can be merged one by one using the normal commands. See the online documentation for SPLTOOL at www.bvstools.com/docs/spltool/ for more details on how merging can be performed. As usual, if there are any questions, please feel free to contact us! - SPLTOOL and Number of PDF Pages Update (Important) - In the last newsletter I stated that the previous SPLTOOL update would change the maximum number of pages that SPLTOOL could convert into PDF was around 30,000. Due to a miscalculation the actual number has been revealed (thanks to a user gracious enough to work with me) and is around 10,000 pages. This was a miscalculation on my part and I apologize. I am looking into updating SPLTOOL in the future to allow the maximum number of pages possible allowed by PDF, though. This will not be a page limit, but an actual spooled file size limit. - FTPTOOL Update Closes Security Loophole - FTPTOOL v4.01 has been released to close a potential security loophole found in FTP security software. While BVSTools.com was not contacted about this issue, a discussion on the Midrange-L mailing list about this security also showed that FTPTOOL was vulnerable to this loophole. The latest version of FTPTOOL addresses this issue. You can download the latest version from www.bvstools.com/ftptool.html. See the entire article on canonical paths and this security loophole at: https://www.exploits.co.in/Article909.html ======================================================= FAQ Snap Shot ------------- Q: I am getting a PDF without the correct fonts and/or the document is being truncated. A: If you have tried the previous fix for document truncation and this did not work or it's obvious in your document that there is font substitution being performed then you will need to make sure that you have all of the fonts you are using in the AFPDS spooled file installed on your AS/400. The reason for this is when you print a document to a printer the fonts resident on the printer itself are used to create the printout. With AFPTOOL there is no printer involved so the Host Print Transform API is used to perform the conversion. If the fonts used in the document are not installed on your machine then the system will perform font substitution causing the report to be converted incorrectly. Make sure you have all of the fonts installed on your AS/400 that are used in your AFPDS spooled files. More FAQs can be found at https://www.bvstools.com/faq.html.
